R(+) Zileuton Program

We are currently pursuing development of the R isomer of zileuton. We have obtained preclinical data that shows a single enantiomer of zileuton possesses higher potency for 5-lipoxygenase inhibition and clinical data after dosing of the racemate that demonstrates this enantiomer exhibits a more prolonged plasma pharmacokinetic exposure profile. We believe that these features may offer the opportunity for us to develop a product candidate with a reduced tablet size or less frequent dose administration. In 2007, we plan to continue to evaluate this enantiomer to establish its pharmacokinetic and 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory profiles. The successful development of the R isomer could lead to an enhanced intellectual property position of zileuton, which could enable us to examine the potential development of a new zileuton tablet product candidate for the treatment of asthma and other indications including, but not limited to, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), atherosclerosis and nasal polyps.
